Versatility and Warmth with Alder
Alder, part of the birch family, is a versatile hardwood known for its consistent color and workability, making it an excellent choice for custom woodwork. Moderately light and softer than other hardwoods, alder is easy to work with using hand or machine tools and sands beautifully to a smooth finish. When freshly cut, alder is white but quickly transitions to light tan or reddish brown upon exposure to air, darkening and developing richer tones with age, much like cherry wood.
With a moderately fine, straight grain and uniform texture, alder offers a clean and polished appearance similar to birch. Its stability and ability to accept stains and finishes with ease make it ideal for crafting functional and decorative pieces. Whether for furniture, cabinetry, or other custom creations, alder combines warmth, durability, and a timeless aesthetic.
